Bio

Born in Colchester, Essex 1994, Sam Plackett started studying guitar at age 5 with tuition from his parents (both classical music teachers). Sam attended numerous youth jazz education programs including The National Youth Jazz Collective and the junior jazz program at The Royal Academy of Music. 

 

In 2014 Sam moved to London to study jazz, gaining opportunities to study with notable UK jazz musicians such as; Mike Walker, Gareth Lockrane, Niki Iles, Phil Robson and more. 

 

Since graduating from Middlesex University with a BA (Hons) in jazz Sam has performed extensively in various projects. He has performed alongside top British jazz musicians such as Mike Gorman, Pete Whittaker and Steve Fishwick. Sam fronts an organ trio featuring Essex based drummer Tom Jiggins and organist Pete Whittaker. He also performs regularly with Les Simons in the Plackett Simons Duo. Sam is a member of two collaborative projects; Rule of Four (featuring; Frank Sebastian Weatherley, Darren Hambling and Jack Monck) and East Coast Guitar Trio (featuring; Martin Plackett and Les Simons). Both ensembles hold residencies in Colchester music venues. 

 

Sam has performed at top music venues including; Ronnie Scott’s, The Barbican Free Stage, The Vortex, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Kings Place and Snape Maltings Concert Hall.
